Wedding in the Snow – part 2

So, how did the wedding in the snow go and did I follow my own advice (see blog entry http://roybarnesphoto.wordpress.com/2013/01/18/wedding-photog…hints-and-tips/ ‎)

Cley Mill is on the North Norfolk coast and in January there is often an icy blast off the North Sea. On the day of the wedding, the temperature was forecasted to be below zero and the roads were still snow covered and very icy. I had a 30 mile drive through country lanes and was concerned I wouldn’t make it. Thankfully, my kind neighbours lent me there 4×4 and I was back in business
The mill itself had icy paths and balcony so we didn’t stray too far away from the Mill.

As the weather was sub zero and the wind chill meant the temperature felt like minus 7, and with the bride wearing a strapless gown, we had to work very fast. Continue reading »

Great Wedding Venue in Suffolk: Ickworth House

I’m excited to be booked to photograph a wedding at Ickworth House (National Trust) early March.  Check out the photos in the gallery below, if the house looks this great in the first week of January, think what it will be like in the spring and summer!

I’m hoping for some warm weather between now and the wedding because I found the magnolia garden and some of the trees had buds on.  That would  make for wonderful wedding photography if they were in flower.  The Italianate gardens are also fabulous

I’ve just been asked to photograph a wedding this week at Cley Mill on the North Norfolk coast.  There is 7cm of snow on the ground at the moment with a further 10cm promised on Friday.  This is not the first wedding I’ve photographed in the snow, but it does bring a few challenges.

Event Photography – Alternative Poses

Just photographed a ball last weekend and wanted to make it a bit more interesting than the usual black tie posing in front of a background.

So I got the subjects to take up different poses – some natural some needing direction.  Here are a few ideas if you are called upon to photograph an event.

Thanks to Mark Jones of Onefshop for the ideas and suggestions.

Top Ten Things to Check with Your Wedding Photographer

We’re well into the wedding season now, and, if you are a bride and groom going through the final checks before your wedding, here are a few things you ought to be checking with your photographer to ensure you get the best possible images on your big day.

  1. Your photographer should have discussed timings with you during your initial consultation.  But with the best will in the world, things change, and it’s easy to overlook letting your photographer know.  Check back the timings from the venue with the photographer’s timing, and if there are discrepancies, give him a call to discuss.
  2. A good photographer will have identified all the formal group shots you require and allowed sufficient time to cover all the group shots.  It’s worth reviewing these as you may have had some special people you want adding to the formals.  As each group shot takes on average three minutes to set up and photograph, springing them on your photographer midway through will cause him to blanch if not drop into blind panic!  Do him a favour and drop him an email, warning him! Nikon1 J1 Test – Slow Motion Video

We’ve just added the Nikon1 J1 to our collection of camera equipment.  Brilliant images for such a small camera and good value.

One feature that interested me was the slow motion video capture.  It shoots a 5 second video at 400 frames a second.  When you play it back, it extends to around a minute at super slow motion.

Check out this video – I’ve called it Paws – you’ll see why ….
